To check Domain Name System (DNS) settings that might interfere with Active Directory replication, you can begin by running the basic test that ensures that DNS is operating properly for your domain. After you run the basic test, you can test other aspects of DNS functionality, including resource record registration and dynamic update. Select the network you want to check DNS settings for then click Advanced. Select the "DNS" tab. By default, you should see 192.168.1.254 in grey under DNS servers. If there is another number there, you can remove it by clicking the 'minus' sign at the bottom of the panel. Click the 'plus' sign to add the correct DNS settings
resolv.conf isn't really used anymore, unless you implement it yourself. The network manager does it now. I created an alias to list the DNS servers on my system, as I sometimes switch from OpenDNS to Google's open DNS.
