On the WD Live Streaming (not on the WD Live Plus, don't know about the WD Play) the WD can actually look up metadata for the movies, but I haven't used this feature. On the Sony, you have the Android market to pull from, so you can install a media player (XBMC for instance) that will give you a nice interface with metadata.
